A few simple rules keep everyone safe on the night, so the carnival can keep rolling for another 120 years.
Carnival night runs like clockwork. Here's when you need to be where, so your tableaux can be judged.
All tableaux are to assemble in the Market Quarter by 5.45pm.
All tableaux are to be registered in the Market Office by 6.00pm. Please collect your marshal’s bib.
Judging starts at 6pm prompt, and the judge’s decision is final.
If there is an unforeseen problem (such as a flat tractor tyre) which means you will be unable to register by the 6pm deadline then it should be reported to a committee member at the registration desk or by calling 07484 517269 by no later than 6.00pm.
Exceptions do not include the lights, music not working or the weather.
Any tableaux not in the Market Quarter and registered by 6.00pm will not be judged, but may still take part in the procession.
These ones keep everyone on (and around) the floats safe.
Please make sure everyone on your tableaux is aware of them.
In the interest of safety you must not jump on and off your tableaux whilst it is moving or during the procession, unless there is an emergency.
Strictly no rocking of floats.
Strictly no alcohol to be consumed on any tableaux.
Nothing may be thrown, sprayed or allowed to escape from any tableaux.
Strictly no fireworks or bangers.
All tableaux must carry a fire extinguisher.
Run through this list before carnival night and you’ll be good to go.
Ready to roll!
Roadworthy trailer. In the interest of safety it is the responsibility of the float operators to ensure trailers entering the carnival are in a roadworthy condition.
Safety chain. A safety chain must be fitted from towing vehicle to trailer. If one is not fitted the entry will be disqualified from the carnival.
Road Traffic Regulations. All entries/persons must comply with Road Traffic Regulations.
Insurance. Insurance details form to be displayed on the towing vehicle.
Something to hold on to. In the interest of safety, some form of restraint or handhold must be fitted to floats for the use of participants. A rope should be provided around the trailer when a strap or handhold is not practical.
A marshal. The entrant to nominate one person walking beside the tableaux to wear a marshal’s bib. The role of the float marshal is to ensure the safety of all participants & compliance with the rules and regulations.
Right class, right route. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that they are in the correct class and to ensure they can get around the carnival route.
No sponsorship signs. Any local entry displaying a sponsorship sign will be disqualified, forfeiting their grant and the right to be judged. Entrants may display “loaned by” signs for the following items only: tractors, trailers, generators and lighting.
The judge’s decision is final. No arguments with the judges, please!
